Bile Duct Cancer & Diagnosis

Bile Duct Cancer & Diagnosis

Bile Duct Cancer:

Bile Duct Cancer, or Cholangiocarcinoma the name of the disease in medical language a rare, but very aggressive kind of cancer. A greenish fluid secreted in the liver and stored in the gall bladder. Bile enormously essential to aid the digestion system and absorption in the small intestine. The bile Duct is an important organ of the human body. Performs a vital function in the human body. a duct-like tube that sends Bile (fluid) from the Liver and Gall Bladder to the duodenum (first section of the small intestine).

Malignant (cancer) cells are developed in the Bile Duct in this disease. The risk of cancer can increase due to certain liver diseases. Pain in the abdomen and jaundice can symptoms of Bile Duct Cancer. Weight loss and yellowish skin when Bile Ducts blocked by a tumor. Generalized itching, fever dark urine, and colored stool can also the symptoms of Bile Duct Cancer.

Diagnosis of bile duct cancer:

There are specific tests to detect, diagnose, and know the stage of Bile Duct and nearby organs’ cancer. For the diagnosis of bile duct cancer sample of tissues obtained through different procedures. Including Blood chemistry tests, the Tumor marker test, Biopsy, Ultrasound Computed Laparoscopy, Tomography (CT or CAT) scan, Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and PTC (Percutaneous Transhepatic Cholangiography.

Anything that affects the chances of getting cancer or any other disease is called a risk factor. Some research studies suggest about 40% of cholangiocarcinoma (Bile Duct Cancer) patients are victims of identifiable risk factors. whereas factors like aging, genetic predisposition cannot be altered.

Exact causes are still not known. But some research studies suggest some possible risk factors including Bile Duct stones, invasion, parasite, or inflammation.

The parasitic disease can also a risk factor. A parasitoid an infection caused or transmitted by parasites. Other causing factors may Alcoholic liver disease, parasitic infections, Human immunodeficiency (HIV) infection, Bile-duct cysts, Liver Cirrhosis, Hepatitis C virus infection, Diabetes, Inflammatory bowel disease.

-More about diagnosis:

Some measures are taken to minimize the risk factors such as limiting the use of alcohol. taking a healthy diet, not smoking, physical active ties, and vaccination against the hepatitis B virus. Patients with early-stage diagnosed Bile Duct cancer have a 5-years survival ratio estimated at 30%. The 5-years survival rate is 24% if cancer spread in nearby regional lymph.

5-years survival ration just 2% if cancer spread to a distant part of the body. Even after transplant surgery,  the survival rate typically 50%. Cholangiocarcinoma ratio is nominal in the Western world with a ratio of 0.2 persons in 100, 000 annually.

The ration of Bile Duct cancer higher in East Asian countries and especially Thailand. Where the disease of Live Flukes common and about 60 persons in 100, 000 the cases of this cancer annually.

The rate of this disease at the rise in even the Western world. About 2500 new cases of Bile Duct cancer are diagnosed annually in the US alone.

Itching (about 66%), abdominal pain (30 to 50%), weight loss ( 30 to 50%), fever ( in about 20%), and darkness in stool and urine color its symptoms.

The procedures generally conducted for the diagnosis are as follows:
  • ERCP procedures.
  • Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP).
  • Endoscopic ultrasound.
  • Biopsy: A procedure in which getting a small sample of tissue for examination through a microscope is called a biopsy.
  • LFT: Liver Function Test.
  • Images tests. Through these tests, doctors try to examine the abnormalities in the internal organs that may show Bile Duct cancer.
  • CT scans Computerized Tomography scans.
  • The Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) combined with.
  • Magnetic Resonance Cholangiopancreatography (MRCP).

Cholangiocarcinoma one of the most difficult types of tumors to treat. don’t hesitate to ask about your doctor’s experience with treating the condition.

Bile duct cancer’s or Cholangiocarcinoma treatments may include:
  • Surgery ( removing cancer affected portion of . if possible).
  • Liver transplant.
  • Chemotherapy ( killing the cancer cells y using specific medicines).
  • Radiation therapy (Destroying cancer cells by using high-energy rays, X-rays, photons).
  • Photodynamic therapy.
  • Biliary drainage (A procedure to restore the flow of Bile through bypass surgery around cancer affected area or by stents).
  • Targeted Therapy Drugs.
  • Immunotherapy.
  • Palliative Therapy.

By adopting a healthy pattern of life, exercises, natural and organic healthy food. We can minimize the chances of various diseases including cancer. The use of insecticides, pesticides, herbicides, and other poisonous medicines in crops and other food and yields increases the risks of fatal diseases also including various types of cancers. The more we adopt natural ways of life and organic foods the more we develop immunity against diseases.
