Important Liver Functions:
The liver is the largest solid organ in the human body. It lies within the tummy on the right side of under the ribs. just below the lungs. The liver is composed of a left and right lobe. The gallbladder is located at the right lobe and stores the bile.
Being the largest organ of the body. The liver performs around 500 functions in our body, and below are listed 5 important functions for your understanding.
DETOXIFICATION:
Is one of the vital roles the liver performs. Liver filters and detoxifies the substances that are not supposed to be in our bodies. It makes use of enzymes and oxygen to burn toxins. The second step of detoxification involves combining toxins with amino acids so that they are removed through bile. The toxins are present in the form of ammonia, drugs, chemical waste so the liver transforms and excretes them out. Detoxification is necessary for your body to function properly.
SYNTHESIS:
Synthesis is another important function. Our liver is involved in the metabolism of fats, proteins, and carbohydrates. It also produces bile which is important for digestion. The stored carbohydrates in the liver are broken down into glucose and siphoned into the blood to maintain the optimum glucose level.
The liver also stores VITAMINS AND MINERALS:
The vitamins being stored include A, D, E, K and B12. Copper is also stored and released by the liver. It stores the vitamins to use when the nutrients fall below what’s needed in the bloodstream.
METOBOLIZIES BILIRUBIN:
Bilirubin is formed by the breakdown of hemoglobin. The iron released from hemoglobin is stored in the liver or bone marrow and used to make the next generation of blood cells.
SUGAR REMOVAL:
from the blood while processing the meal you had. It removes sugar from the food you eat and stores it in the form of glycogen. So, whenever your body runs short of energy and sugar. it converts that stored glycogen in the form of glucose giving you an instant form of energy.
A liver’s functions are so complex and vital that its only replacement is a transplanted liver. If a liver disease attacks your body it affects several other organs as well. So you need to take care of your body in order to keep your liver healthy and functioning!
