Obesity & It’s Causes

Obesity & It’s Causes

Obesity & It’s Causes

Obesity is one of the biggest health problems we are facing in the world today. Usually a result of genetics and behavior factors. From genetics, we mean the family history and Genes give the body instructions for responding to changes in its environment. Studies have identified variants in several genes that may contribute to obesity by increasing hunger and food intake. In addition, from behavior, we focus on the dietary patterns, physical activity, and usage of certain medications.

Here some important factors leading to weight gain and obesity.

Genetics:

plays a key role in contributing to obesity. Rare single gene defects are the cause of obesity in childhood, which results in extreme hunger episodes. According to scientists, a combination of certain genes, family history, and behavior is important in triggering obesity.

Lack of physical activity:

is another major reason for obesity. Most of the young lot these days tend to be lazy since the advent of technology. Children between the ages of 8 and 18 years spend 7.5 hours each day engaging in entertainment media: TV, computers, cell phones, movies, and video games, and about 4.5 of these hours are devoted to watching TV. They spend most of their day in front of the television or a video game limiting their physical movements. There are very few recreational parks left so that one may go outside and play. Even 20 minute’s walk every day is sufficient for your muscles movement.

The food choices:

we make are very important for healthy living! Almost 60% of adults consume 1 sugary drink a day. Foods high in sugar, fat, and salt are highly advertised and eaten by people all over the world. It’s an era where children priorities having fast food over any other meal which seems to be fulling but very fattening!

Stress and Emotions:

Also, trigger obesity. Studies also have found that fewer people sleep, the more likely they are to be overweight or obese. Similarly, stress eating also leads to obesity. Some people are more prone to eating while depressed or stressed out due to hormonal imbalances; the stress hormone “cortisol” rises during the stressed moments and can lead towards overeating.

Health Conditions:

include some diseases or hormonal imbalances due to thyroid, diabetes, and PCOS, etc are at risk of developing diabetes. Cushing disease and Hypothyroidism also causes weight gain and obesity. The right choice of medication and timely treatment can make you control this.

The right lifestyle choices and physical activities can make you avoid obesity and excessive weight gain which is a path towards a long and healthy life.

Organic Food & It’s Benifits

Organic Food & It’s Benifits

Organic Food:

The growing trends of “fast food” across the globe attracting people especially the youth. These junk foods become the staple food of people around the world. The processed food bears the least food potential in it which doesn’t give much strength. To the human body as lacking nutrient values. Some two to three to four decades ago there not much known. About these artificially produced cereals, meat, chicken, milk, and other products, used in today’s foods of various kinds. The primitive methods of cultivation and live stocking not yielding. Gigantic quantities of grains, vegetables, fruits, chicken, dairy, and meat. But containing rich natural organic nutrient values in them.

Benfits of Orgnic food:

Mighty food needs of the ever-increasing human population with explosive ratio. Necessitated the modern scientific inventions, and artificial methods to meet these needs. Chemically developed artificial fertilizers, instead of natural bio-organic fertilizers. Gave an extraordinary boost to crops in terms of quantity, but the quality of being natural severely compromised. The multi-time bigger quantities of crops made the growers overwhelmingly, pleased and satisfied as they started earning much more from per-acre. As compared to the earnings before the use of chemical fertilizers.

Eventually, the illiterate and semi-literate formers did not know the dangers. Risks associated with the use of chemical fertilizers. When these chemical fertilizers boosted the crops they boosted. Unwanted weeds, herbs, pests, insects, and other harmful elements for crops.

This mushroom growth of harmful elements necessitated. The creation and use of insecticides, pesticides, herbicides, and other poisonous medicines. These poisonous inputs infected the yield of crops itself.

A similar artificial path used in the massive growth of inorganic poultry. live stocks that adulterate these products with poisonous effects.

More about organic food:

These artificially processed foods, grown by these poisonous inputs. Cause dangerous harm to human health and quality of life. A number of fatal diseases of the present modern age caused by artificial poisonous. Inputs in crops growing, a number of researches revealed.

Both short-term acute health effects and chronic diseases. Caused by the use of pesticides on crops and artificially developed chemical feed for poultry and livestock.

Blindness, stinging eyes, dizziness, rashes, nausea, asthma, diarrhea, anxiety, depression, attention deficit, hypertension, and even cancer can be caused by pesticides and other poisonous inputs.

The widespread use of these artificially grown foods causing severe influences not only on human physical health but also human mental health and reproductive system researches reveal.

These artificial elements putting adverse effects on food quality which eventually badly damages human health.

The primitive methods of cultivation and use of organic inputs including bio and organic fertilizers, natural seeds, and prevention of crops through manual manners were not producing a yield of quantity in comparison with a hefty amount of production with artificial modern means and use of inorganic inputs.

But that organically grown and developed food was health-friendly and was not causing to fatal and killing diseases of the present modern age.

According to a number of researchers, such modern implements and inputs are causing fatal diseases like cancer and many others mentioned earlier.

As the population grows explosively and the use of land is increasing for other purposes. than agriculture these modern methods, artificially developed seeds, chemical fertilizers, pesticides, and insecticides became ‘need” of the day. Such measures and artificiality turned as the “necessity” than choice.

Chemical foods and its effect:

On the other hand, the diseases caused by these chemically grown food crops turned. The medicines used for the cure of these diseases a hefty industry of trillion dollars across the globe.   Now the medicines’ industry is the second largest industry after the “war industry”. Only in 2018 the total health and wellness related industry amounted to 4.5 trillion US dollars. This means 52700 billion Pakistani rupees, in the US only, and trillion of more dollars engaged in the business of healthcare around the world. The most modern and sophisticated instruments, diagnostic machines, equipment, expensive medicines, operations involve trillions of dollars across the globe. To cure the diseases caused by contaminated food, water, and another unhygienic and polluted way of life.

The trillion dollars industries are financially benefited by the artificially grown food. Pesticides, insecticides, chemical fertilizers, and the fatal diseases sprout in consequence of these artificial and chemical oriented foods.

Live healthily, eat organic food.

Liver Transplantation, A chance to life

Liver Transplantation, A chance to life

Liver Transplantation:

Liver transplantation is the blessing that has been saving many lives! It is one of the products of advanced medical technologies and techniques. This procedure is usually done on the patients suffering from cirrhosis which happens because of consumption of alcohol or hepatitis C and then the damaged liver is replaced with another liver donated by a deceased or a living donor. The surgery takes its time according to the condition but usually, it lasts from 4 to 14 hours.

Mainly, there are three types of liver transplants. The most common one was Orthotopic liver transplant where the liver is taken out from a dead or deceased donor. Living donor transplantation requires a living donor who is willing to donate their liver to the patient.

Liver transplantation is a ray of hope for the patients suffering from severe liver-related diseases because the liver is the only organ that has the property to regrow to its full size after the surgery. There are some factors that have to match or be compatible with the transplant to be performed. It’s not in the control of anyone; it depends on your luck or how fast you can find the compatible donor!

Changes after liver transplantation:

Certain lifestyle changes are required for a liver transplant. A transplanted liver becomes sensitive to chemicals such as alcohol, sprays, and toxins. The recipients of liver transplant should avoid coming in contact with fumes and drinks as such. Drinking a lot of water is necessary! But it should be boiled or chlorinated so that it doesn’t harm your body. Of course, there will be a scar on your body post-transplant but that’s alright. If you face such a big procedure than you can face that too!

Dr. Faisal Saud Dar is a blessing for us Pakistanis as this procedure in the past was only performed in foreign countries and coasted a lot of money. But now! We have this facility in our very own country Pakistan.

The liver one of those organs which quite ignored by our people when it comes to health. Do you know that your liver is the powerhouse of your body? It performs more than 500 major functions and involved in 13,000 multiple chemical productions in your body. A healthy diet and routine keep your body healthy and functional. A poor diet will affect all your organs and your overall health and fitness which will gradually lead towards the deterioration of our vital organ, Liver!

Food for a healthy diet:

There are many foods that can be consumed to avoid liver diseases and damages such as Coffee, as it helps in reducing the risk of chronic liver diseases. According to a report, coffee increases the number of antioxidants in the liver. Fiber plays an important role in digestion and by consuming oatmeal; you are actually taking lots of fibers which is good for your overall health and for reducing fat. Green tea has promising effects on the liver! Take one cup of green tea every day to keep your liver and body detoxed. Grapefruits contain such chemicals that protect the liver from being inflamed.  There are some plant foods that are good for your liver as well such as lemons, carrots, broccoli, bananas or watermelon, etc.

More about healthy diet

Stay away from fatty and sugary food items as they can cause inflammation to the liver and can also cause fatty liver diseases. Cut down the amount of salt that you are consuming because it leads to fibrosis. Avoid alcohol as it is the worst enemy of your liver which slowly poisons it, leads to cancer and many other worst liver diseases.
Be smart in choosing the right meal for your body because eventually, we are what we eat! Our bodies will only perform well if all our organs are in good health.

How Hepatitis C Affects Human Liver

How Hepatitis C Affects Human Liver

Hepatitis C is a chronic viral inflammation of the liver that can cause temporary or permanent liver damage. The liver damage at first in the form of liver inflammation gradually leading to scarring or fibrosis Hepatitis C Affects Human Liver.

Hepatitis C can cause the death of liver cells. This might be due to either virus-killing liver cells or immune system response to infected liver cells. Recent research shows that its combination of both factors but immune system response seems more pronounced causing much damage. The death of liver cells causes inflammatory changes in the human liver. That in turn causes enlargement of the liver (hepatomegaly). Liver enlargement seen in about 60% of patients and the leading cause of persistent pain in the liver area.

Inflammation triggers:

Inflammation triggers the processes that lead to fibrosis. Fibrosis is not a disease but is a condition caused by the body’s response to liver damage. Specific liver cells called stellate cells are triggered by Inflammation. These cells store fat and vitamin A when the liver is in a healthy condition. These cells are also responsible for blood flow regulation within the liver Hepatitis C Affects Human Liver. But when the liver inflamed by the presence of hepatitis C, a reaction occurs amongst different liver cells. This reaction leads stellate cells to dispense with vitamin A, altering their function.

Infected and inflamed liver cells:

Infected and inflamed liver cells release chemical signals called ‘cytokines’. These chemicals cause the activation of white blood cells outside the liver. The activated white blood cells travel to the liver and there in combination with specialized white cells of the liver, produce further chemical signals. These signals cause stellate cells to begin producing and laying down collagen fibers. In the extracellular matrix, which is the area between the cells.

Collagen, a fibrous protein:

Collagen, a fibrous protein is fundamental to the formation of scar tissue. The human body has the protective mechanism of limiting infection and healing of injured areas. For this purpose it uses collagen. In normal conditions when the particular injured area is healed or infection resolved the collagen is dissolved and removed from that area. The activated stellate cells then die off, allowing the tissue to return to normal. But in chronic hepatitis C, the collagen matrix grows too fast and cannot be properly dissolved. Resulting in scar tissue build up around the cells. This prevents liver cells from getting vital nutrients and oxygen from blood so they die rapidly. A never-ending cycle starts in which inflammation and fibrogenic cells stimulate each other leading to increased fibrosis.

Free Radicals and Fibrosis:

A further possible cause of fibrosis due to damage by free radicals. Free radicals are highly reactive chemical substances. They are the by-product of a cell’s normal reactions such as energy generation and the breakdown of fats. During these reactions, oxygen is transformed into the free radical superoxide. Cells with normal physiological function protection mechanisms to protect themselves from damage. Effects of free radicals but if free radicals in high concentration or cells have lost normal function. Then free radicals can cause havoc Hepatitis C Affects Human Liver.

Free radicals much concerned with hepatitis C patients due to the following reasons.
  • Chronic liver inflammation may lead to over-production of free radicals within the liver.
  • There is evidence that free radicals play a role in liver fibrosis. Free radicals can chemically alter fat in the body. This called lipid peroxidation. The free radicals attack the cell membrane and can injure and eventually kill cells. If this happens to liver cells, it will lead to fibrosis.
  • When the liver function is already impaired and there an overload of iron, the free radicals may interact with the iron causing further damage.

The liver tissues wonderful potential to regenerate, so why they do not regenerate in Hepatitis C infection.

Hepatitis C causes slow tissue damage and progressing scarring. Our liver two protective mechanisms against any damaging factor. Either their regeneration with complete restoration of the liver structure and function or there sustained scarring of liver tissue leading to damage. When the liver damaged by a single strong injury such as in donating a part of the liver. Regeneration highly likely even if a large area affected. But if the injury repetitive and the liver does not have enough time for healing from a previous injury and next injury ensues. As the case with hepatitis C infection – the liver cannot effectively cope. It does not the time and space to heal and regenerate.

Hepatitis C in Pakistan

Pakistan is enduring an HCV epidemic of historical proportions—one in every 20 Pakistanis already infected. With this infection playing a major role in liver disease burden in this country. HCV prevalence high in all risk populations with most transmission apparently driven by healthcare procedures Hepatitis C Affects Human Liver. Malpractice, misdiagnosis, use of nonsterile surgical and dental equipment, and using a single syringe more than once all are largely contributing factors. Drug abusers, sex workers, and malnourished children are high-risk groups.

More about Hepatitis C:

We strive for community awareness against Hepatitis C and urge the government to make HCV treatment and prevention of national priority in Pakistan. Although the country has made efforts to increase coverage of safe injection and blood screening and to improve infection control commitment to prevention in all segments of the healthcare system, including the private sector, still the target of the complete elimination of hepatitis C seems very distant.
